Just another friendly reminder, my latest collection of poems “The Slums of Nightfall” has been published and it is available for purchase on Amazon. It’s a book that covers a wide range of topics. Most of the poems revolve around the subject of mental health, specifically  my ongoing struggle with anxiety and depression. The book is not about a literal slum. It is about a state of mind a person can reach, when they lie awake at night, contemplating the world around them. It is about the wee hours of the morning, when your home has fallen silent and you are left to be wide awake with your memories. Each poem is a part of larger story; a story about wrestling with your fears and insecurities, and the slow and gradually journey toward loving and accepting yourself. Amazon  Author Page

My latest collection of poetry has been published! I never thought I would get to type those words. But today is that day. My dream has become a reality and I could not have achieved this without all of your help. The constant feedback and words of encouragement are apart of what motivates me to write these poems. This is the beginning of a truly exciting chapter. Let’s just see what happens next..

Ghostly Verses

Nocturnes warm
My planted roots
The deeper I dare to sprawl

As the notes contain
The whole of my mind
With angelic ease
Flaunting
Their shades of black

In the hollow depths of myself
I coil with fear
Burdened
By looming quiet

On the edge
Of their ghostly words
Carried by all
Yet tragically
Cherished by few

Blood Ballads

North star ballads
Soar free
From these nimble fingers

Never fearfully tussling
With hardships long spent
In the crackling mayhem
Stained, in Tennessee red

Railroad ballads
All sail with haste
With starved
And desperate zeal

Where the faithful roads
All glimmer anew
As home
To these soulful
Anthems of rage

From Dreary Miles

Image

A few stir
But many more lie still
Marooned inside their warped reveries
Exiled by the drunken tides
And grandiose plumes, of high elation

Few hobble on
Beneath the roving fog
Far from the glorious glow of dawn
As starlight still pierces
Their low and hazy canopies of grey

A calm distortion
Slowly grinds from its knees
Onto its feet
A diligent rising and cacophonous swirl
Droning ahead the crowning sun

From out of the mist and shadow
And into the midst
Of revelry and carnage
Stands the lone strumming outcast
Weaving past roads
He’s long kept inside

Grassy desolation
Arises in many stripes
Worn, and depleted
In the swell of celebration
Resurrected by the whirling strings
Groaning and droning
Through blistering highs and lows

He reaped from the shambles
To fashion his lofty tale
Like the artisan trapped
In jagged devastation
He takes from ruin
And births life anew

Like glittering shards
From a gutted church of old
Wrangled stained glass
Forged, into newborn significance

Like the remnants of war
That scar quiet fields
Toiled upon with great effort
To brandish seas
Of green and golden splendor
Once more

Many stand
Awe struck
As food for the bold, naked and true
The great flowering magnitude
Stacked note upon note
As a shrill and ominous confession

Among the Cavalier Giants

Image

Knee deep
In vice and tribulation
I tread foolishly
And desperately undeterred

To the isle of crooners
Daydreamers and ponderers
Daylight wanderers
And precious time squanderers

I’ll croon with the giants
In high and mighty splendor
Adrift from the norm
And its hollow dormancy

Aligned we’ll flood nights
In declaration and song
To remedy the twinge of every past wrong
But we’ll stew in opulence, for not too long

Brass-Tongued Lullabies

Image

The flair of jazz halls
That rock me
Through and through in sleep

I cherish each sonnet
Spilled from saxophone and trumpet
In the company of keys
Unified in their quest to convey

I cannot fail
In their vast reach
Tenderly conjuring
Each swell of harmony and emotion

The spirits of struggles
Long ago
Are bound only
To their ceaseless mourning

Loyally, I’ll journey for the midnight glare
Where history rejoins us
Where passion blooms, booms, and blares

My first two ebooks “Guardian of the Inkwell” and “From Turmoil and Tribulation” can be downloaded  for free on the website linked above. Download them, but only if you really want to.

I should note that if you are using a PC you will have to install Adobe Digital Editions to open the epub file. (If you haven’t done so previously)  I apologize for failing to mention this before.

Caution! This is a shameless ebook plug.

Around this time last year i was overcome with a sense of hopelessness. Every single day i had major panic attacks, loss of appetite, and an eroding will to live. The only thing that seemed to give me any peace of mind was poetry. So for the entire summer of 2012 i wrote and by October i had a stack of papers in my bedroom the size of an oxford dictionary. I decided to piece together what i saw as my best work (some old and some new) into an anthology. I titled it “Guardian of the Inkwell: A Collection of Ramblings of the Poetic Persuasion”. Its a free ebook that i originally published in October, and republished as an epub file on the 1st of December. My book is still available for free on Itunes, Barnes & Noble, and Lulu. Currently i’m working on another anthology which will include short stories and monologues as well as poetry. If you are interested in reading my first book, please follow one of the links below. Did i mention its free?
