Their blood red shovels tear a path
To the ruptured well,
To the black artery
Rushing back to his roots

As the moonlight mourns
Gleaming cold in the dark
Cruel travelers, cleave down
Into the truth-bearing rapids

They’ll disperse as his friends
In the eagle-eyes of dawn,
Leave the old earth scarred,
Shedding rumors of gold
